Family owned, community driven, award winning – Axmen of Missoula, Montana succeeding through generations

Researchers at http://www.fambiz.com estimate that "at least 90 percent of businesses in the U.S. are family owned and controlled and contribute somewhere between 30 and 60 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product," with an estimated 2 million family firms posting revenues greater than $1 million.

Axmen CEO, Guy Hanson says that when his family was asked to complete the necessary submission package for the award that included information about what they do, it made him think harder than he had in years about what the family business means.

"The focus wasn’t on ‘do you make money?’ as much as it was about what you bring to the community (as a family-run business) and whether what you are trying to promote or build has longevity and value to the community," says Hanson.
