Gov Schweitzer: Butte, Montana could be first zero-carbon city on the planet

Butte has the potential to be the only zero-carbon city on the planet.

That was the word from Gov. Brian Schweitzer who spoke at the Three Forks Chamber Dinner Thursday night.

Butte has a honeycomb-like formation underground from previous copper kings who drilled to store water, Schweitzer said, adding that now, that water is about 82 degrees. It is heated by hot rock 8,000 feet below the ground.
