Portable exhibit takes science on Northwest tour

Amanda Goulart had the opportunity to hold a human brain in her hands Monday.
But the seventh-grader at Post Falls Middle School couldn’t do it.

The bleak color was offensive, and the smell was even worse.

"It just seems kind of weird," Goulart said. "I’m not going to touch it because it’s just too gross."

The Pacific Science Center’s portable "Science On The Go" program came to the school this week. When students were released to explore dozens of exhibits and experiments, most rushed to the brain.

"It was just really gross," said Felicia Jones, seventh-grader. "It was hard, and it also smelled really bad."

Officials from Pacific Science in Seattle say they don’t have a lot of background on the traveling brain. They don’t know whether it was male or female and don’t know how old the person was.

Many students gathered around the coiled-mass and took a few guesses at who the mystery person was.
