Developer provides essential key for Coeur d’Alene education corridor

Few announcements have created excitement and optimism as intense as that this week by Marshall Chesrown that he will buy the last two sawmills operating on the Spokane River to make way for future development.

Known for his capacity to conceive of and build top-notch projects, the Black Rock developer is seen as the key to realizing a dream shared by many in the community of creating an "education corridor" from North Idaho College to the U.S. 95 bridge.

"It gives everybody encouragement that a vision we’ve always thought about could be realized," said Sandi Bloem, Coeur d’Alene mayor and proponent of the corridor.

Bloem has often said that education is the essential ingredient in creating a community where those raised here can find the kind of jobs that allow them to stay and earn decent wages — a concept she calls "generational living."

"I think with good planning … this can happen," Bloem said.
