Idaho Identifies its Strengths in Science & Technology

Imaging, power and energy, agricultural biosciences and nanoscience are four strengths the state should focus on to build its science and technology industry, according to a report by the Idaho Office of Science and Technology.

The four areas reflect the specialties of some of Idaho’s biggest research institutions and companies including Micron Technology, Hewlett-Packard and the Idaho National Lab.

The report was presented to the Governor’s Science and Technology Advisory Council which has representatives from the technology industry and Idaho’s three major universities. Idaho State University President Dr. Richard Bowen has been on the council since November 2003. University of Idaho President Dr. Timothy White and Boise State University President Dr. Robert Kustra were appointed to the council in January.

Three new staff members have also joined the Idaho Office of Science & Technology since its inception: Julie Howard, Rachel Hall and Jeff Viano.
