Proposed resort near Missoula would have 10 lifts

Emerging details for a proposed destination ski resort just south of Lolo show a project with 10 lifts that would transport skiers and snowboarders from a village.

Rancher Tom Maclay and consultants talked about their plans for his property and neighboring federal land at open-house sessions here and in Hamilton.

Maclay envisions a village with lodging, a sports center, a skating pond and a golf course on land that has been in his family for five generations. The skiing on Lolo Peak, which is federal property, would feature a vertical drop of 5,342 feet.

The information sessions Friday drew crowds, with some people offering overwhelming support for Maclay’s project and others vowing to fight it.
