Job Opportunity: General Manager, North Dakota Venture Capital Fund

A North Dakota Venture Capital Fund, which plans to commence operations in 2005, is seeking an experienced General Manager. The fund will seek market based financial returns while creating entrepreneurial and equity investment capacity in North Dakota and the surrounding states. The North Dakota Department of Economic Development, through independent financial support, will enhance the fund’s deal flow and assist the fund’s portfolio companies. The position will be located in a technology incubator at either the University of North Dakota (UND) in Grand Forks or North Dakota State University (NDSU) in Fargo.

The General Manager will be responsible for the staffing and daily management of the fund including, but not limited to, generating deal flow, analyzing potential investments, negotiating, structuring and closing investments. Subsequently, and most importantly, the General Manager will add value to the fund’s portfolio companies beyond the invested funds. This position reports to the fund’s board of directors.

Two experienced venture capitalists who are North Dakota natives will invest in and serve as directors and advisors for the fund. These individuals, and the General Manager, will work together to organize the fund and raise $15 million to capitalize the fund.
Job Requirements:
The candidate should posses an undergraduate degree (preferably in finance) and must have a minimum of five years experience in the seed and/or venture capital industry. An MBA and/or CFA would be a plus. Integrity, intelligence and energy are requirements to be successful in this position.
