The money will be used to buy three new airplanes and a Piper-Archer flight simulator and increase scholarships for students and general support for the program.

Sen. Max Baucus, Mont., and Sen. Conrad Burns, R-Mont., worked on getting the measure passed.

If the bill is signed by President Bush, the money will be on the way sometime after Oct. 1, Kaiser said.

The bill includes more than $60 million for Montana projects, Kaiser said. This is the only project in the Billings area.

The Rocky program is the only bachelor’s degree aviation program in Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho.

The program had 79 students fall semester 2002 and 99 students last fall. This fall, aviation program director Dan Hargrove expects 115 students.
