Indiana Businesses Get Boost in Landing State Contracts

Social, Economic and Workforce Programs Division Governor Joe Kernan has announced several policy changes that will give Indiana businesses more opportunities to land state contracts. The changes are part of the Governor’s Opportunity Indiana Initiative, created to maximize opportunities for Indiana companies to do business with the state.

Beginning July 1, all companies doing business with state agencies will have to complete an "Indiana Economic Impact" form. The form identifies the amount of the contract allocated for payroll and benefits to Indiana residents, the amount awarded to Indiana subcontractors and suppliers, and the amount subcontracted to Indiana certified minority- and women-owned businesses.

Other policy changes include waiving the requirement that companies back their proposals with bid bonds, and requiring agencies to hold in-person information sessions at least 60 days prior to issuing a request for proposals. Additionally, state agencies will be encouraged to divide large projects into smaller components to allow Indiana companies a better opportunity to compete.
