Commmunity development team visiting Manhattan this week
A team of state agency representatives and others will spend two days in Manhattan visiting with residents, and ultimately will recommend how the town should pursue development and planning strategies for a successful, strong community.

The Rural Resource team includes representatives of the state and U.S. Departments of Agriculture — including marketing, housing and outreach specialists — the state Department of Commerce, and private architects and engineers.

The team visits rural towns upon invitation, and spends a few days speaking with a cross-section of residents about the strengths, challenges and goals in their community. The team will start its work in Manhattan today at 10 a.m. with a special orientation meeting at the town hall.
They will spend today and Wednesday meeting with the Town Council, touring Manhattan, talking to senior citizens, educators, civic groups, business people, farmers and ranchers and emergency services workers.
At 7 p.m. Wednesday, the team will report to the community at a special Town Council meeting, and will preview their recommendations for making the community stronger. In about a month, the team will issue a formal report.
