That’s the plan of former Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs, who, after pioneering a guaranteed income pilot in the California city, is now launching a nonprofit to end poverty statewide.
The Missoula Connect plan has multiple goals, including connecting Missoula’s rural areas with its urban ones in a safe and affordable manner. It also aims to keep up with sustainability efforts while bringing existing infrastructure to a state of good repair.
The program already exists in most states across the nation, according to county officials, and was made possible in Montana due to the state legislature passing the PACE act in 2021.
Officials also say there are many benefits for participants in the program.
Sixteen youth plaintiffs are suing the state of Montana for their right to access a clean and healthful environment in a case scheduled to go to trial next year.
