The Fonz takes up fly fishing in Montana

"My heart lives in New York, where I was born and raised. My body lives in Los Angeles, where I do much of my work. My soul lives in Montana, where I fish." Henry Winkler

Came to work one day this week and found a book on my desk written by Henry Winkler. On the cover he’s holding a beautiful brown trout. The name of the book is "I’ve Never Met an Idiot on the River." http://www.amazon.com/Ive-Never-Met-Idiot-River/dp/1608870200

That’s right, the Fonz is now more interested in jumping trout than sharks.

I really, really didn’t want to like the book. I figured here’s another Hollywood dude who’s discovered both fly fishing and Montana. Last thing we need is another celebrity buying up land, then denying fishing access to the locals. Are you listening, Mr. Lewis?

Then there’s the title: "I’ve Never Met an Idiot on the River." I disagree. I would put the number at one in three. So if you look upstream and that person’s not an idiot, and you look downstream and that person’s not an idiot, then the chances are you’re an idiot.

Chided by his parents for being dumb while growing up with undiagnosed dyslexia, Winkler never thought he’d have the hand-eye coordination to do something like fly fishing. But when he was invited along for a float on the Smith in 1993, he was hooked.
