Center for Workforce Preparation

Thank you for taking the time to complete the attached survey. In order for your response to be included in the national report, please return it to the Montana Chamber of Commerce no later than January 24, 2003.

Congress is scheduled to review the Workforce Investment Act in 2003. This law provides the framework for the public workforce development system in this country. The Montana Chamber of Commerce and the Center for Workforce Preparation, a nonprofit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, believe it is critical that the voice of business be heard regarding the challenges and successes of the government-funded workforce development system.

Some of the questions in the survey refer to One-Stop Career Centers and Workforce Investment Boards. One-Stop Career Centers are physical or virtual locations where employers and job seekers can access services and information about hiring, training/learning, retention, and other workforce-related issues. Many communities are served by one or more One-Stop Career Centers, in Montana they are the:

Anaconda, Butte, Billings, Bozeman, Cut Bank, Dillon, Kalispell, Polson, Glasgow, Glendive, Great Falls, Hamilton, Havre, Helena, Lewistown, Libby, Livingston, Miles City, Missoula, Shelby, Sidney, Thompson Falls, and Wolf Point Job Service Workforce Centers.

Workforce Investment Boards oversee the design, implementation, funding and evaluation of publicly funded workforce development in state-designated areas, and are required to have a majority business membership. Every community is served by at least one Workforce Investment Board; some by more than one. The names of the Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) in Montana are the:

State Workforce Investment Board (covering all of Montana)

Concentrated Employment Program (CEP) Local Workforce Investment Board (covering the counties of Beaverhead, Broadwater, Deer Lodge,Granite, Jefferson, Lewis & Clark, Madison, Meagher, Powell, and Silver Bow)

Balance of State (BOS) Local Workforce Investment Board (covering all other counties)

Thank you for completing this survey.
