Among states that allow collective bargaining for faculty salaries, Montana came in dead last. This presents a problem for recruiting knowledgeable faculty members to the institution. If UM hopes to be a viable option for quality higher education – both in the state and in the region – it cannot continue to offer salaries that do not adequately compensate professors for their time, knowledge and instruction.
