Gov. Dave Freudenthal has scheduled a second statewide forum to talk about the future of Wyoming.

Right now, the town pays High Plains Power about $2,000 a month in electricity bills. The wind turbines would reduce that by about $800 a month.

"We’re just going to get organized enough to find out what questions to ask," he said. "We don’t plan to make any decisions."

The wind energy boom blowing through Sweetwater County will be a gale force soon and could threaten the region’s quality of life, a host of speakers said this week.

The company, a subsidiary of the Denver-based Anschutz Corp., is moving forward with plans to build 1,000 wind turbines near Rawlins. The 325-turbine Sierra Madre project and 675-turbine Chokecherry project are expected to produce between 2,000 and 3,000 megawatts, the company said.
