Accounting, data analytics and advanced manufacturing companies are among those found on college campuses these days, their managers hoping to ensure they get employees with the right mix of technical and communication skills.

To address that problem, we came up with four recommendations for governors that fit into the Data Quality Campaign policy roadmap but offer a greater focus on leadership:

Manufacturers across the United States are targeting schools and colleges to let young people know there is more to manufacturing than pulling levers on an assembly line.

The focus of the program’s second funding round is two-fold: to help people find work and to help businesses expand.

"This workshop is one step toward making connections between Treasure Valley educators and Treasure Valley businesses to help develop an understanding of what the business needs are and develop practical ways in which educators can better help students prepare to enter the workplace and succeed," said Ofelia Morales, workforce consultant for Department of Labor.

The White House on Wednesday rolled out two job-training grant programs that focus on the community college sector. Both push for closer ties between colleges and employers.

In places where workforce development is most successful, there’s a one-to-one relationship with the community college president and the head of the workforce board…

"Montana’s economy cannot reach its full potential if we’re leaving half the workforce behind," Bullock said. "When women do better, all working families do better."

Is there a skill gap?

The funding will allow Great Falls College-MSU to complete development of their unique welding curriculum that will train students for both the American Welding Society (AWS) and Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) certifications. It is one of few programs in the country that prepares students for dual certifications. The program will open doors for Montanans to access high paying jobs in Montana.
