The line, long sought by billionaire developer and Microsoft Corp. co-founder Paul Allen, is designed to serve those living in thousands of new homes, several major new businesses and new development.

In Toronto, planners have unveiled a street design that separates a planned streetcar line from auto traffic, bike lanes, and parking. Many are calling it a first for the city — making the street decidedly transit- and pedestrian-friendly.

Access to transportation for the elderly is of increasing concern as baby boomers approach retirement. Though the problem is major, many communities already have some programs in place to improve mobility for seniors.

Seattle has approved a new 10-year bicycle master plan that advocates hope will encourage more biking in the city. Seattle’s plan stands out from other cities’ bicycle plans, as much of its necessary funding has already been approved.

Virgin has put together a list of the top 11 friendliest cities for bikes in the world, based on criteria advanced by the League of American Bicyclists.

Great Lakes is hoping to wrangle the flights away from Big Sky Airlines, the carrier since 1980, and route them through Denver. Passengers currently have to fly through Billings.
