NorthWestern Energy (NYSE:NWE) yesterday submitted its annual filings with the Montana Public Service Commission to true-up its electric and natural gas supply costs beginning July 1, 2014.

It will be the biggest Uptown building project in decades. It virtually ensures a multi-story parking garage will finally be funded and built. And the building project should pump millions of new tax dollars into the heart of Butte.

"We’ve passed a major milestone at the federal level," said John Hines, vice president of supply for NorthWestern.

"We are happy to be part of the remarkable energy savings at the Montana Data Center Project," said Bob Rowe, President and CEO of NorthWestern Energy.

"The First Security Bank Building is part of a regional pilot effort with a goal of providing tools and information to help more buildings in the region become more energy efficient."

Gary Buchanan, a Billings investment adviser and former director of the state Commerce Department, said Montana can never regain what it lost when the dams were sold. But he said a sale to NorthWestern would ensure that they were not bought by a hedge fund or other investor with no obligation to consumers and that could ship the electricity generated out of state.

NorthWestern Energy has an agreement to build a new $23 million Montana headquarters building in Butte.

The series is intended to attract Tech students, faculty, staff, alumni and business leaders.
