Today, officials from MSU Billings and UM will announce a memorandum of understanding that will locate UM’s MBA offices in McDonald Hall, home of the MSU Billings College of Business.

Colvin said that "it was humbling and exciting" to be among this year’s Mitchell recipients, who include a National Book Award Nominee and an Emmy winner. "To have something that combined all of my musical and medical interests is a dream come true," Colvin said.

“Not a lot of Native Americans are going into the hard sciences,” said Diane Friend, a University of Montana astronomy professor and part of BSSP. “That shouldn’t be the case. In K-8 classrooms, we should be exciting everybody.”

The Board of Regents agreed unanimously Thursday that the Montana Legislature should reject the idea.

The recommendation, posted on the Commissioner of Higher Education Office’s Web site late Tuesday morning, urged regents to look for other ways to bring two-year higher education to Bitterroot Valley residents.

Running has academic friends at other major universities around the country who were bequeathed coveted parking places after they received Nobel Prizes in science, a point Running jokingly passed on to UM President George Dennison, who was in fact listening. Running got his spot.

"This is another step we are taking toward meeting the governor’s 20×10 Initiative," said MSU President Geoff Gamble. "For the university, this is a low-risk contract with the potential for very high reward."
