The goal of the Scholars Program is to provide a more rigorous academic selection for high-achieving, motivated students. The college is accepting applications for the program now, and will admit its first class of 20 students this fall, though Ivan Lorentzen, the program’s director, said that number might grow in the future.

The Shingo prizes are named for Japanese industrial engineer Shigeo Shingo, a world-renowned expert on improving manufacturing processes. The prizes were established in 1988 to promote awareness of lean manufacturing and to recognize manufacturing excellence around the world.

Officials unveiled a "Fuels for Schools and Beyond" wood biomass heating system Thursday at the Central Park Center in Deer Lodge.

Gamble and George Dennison, University of Montana president, are still the lowest paid presidents of universities awarding doctoral degrees in the country, according to the Montana University System’s personnel expert.
