Since 2001, the Montana EPSCoR program has funded the work of 964 high school, graduate and doctoral students, dozens of research collaborations, seminar speakers and visiting scholars at UM and MSU, and provided seed money for more than 25 startup businesses.

Tom McCoy, MSU vice president for research, praised Sen. Conrad Burns for having the vision to see that building up science and technology is the way to strengthen Montana’s economy, and for recognizing that the way to do that is by getting himself on the Appropriations Committee.

Fallahi said "great science" is being conducted in Idaho labs, but said the state’s reputation in this area needs to be enhanced.
"I just wish bigger schools, especially M.D./Ph.D. programs, would take us more seriously," he said. "Funding of this nature is critical for Idaho to maintain a needed presence in the field of biomedical science."
