The leader of Britain’s Conservative Party says we’re entering a new era — where governments themselves have less power (and less money) and people empowered by technology have more.

"When we launched our open data portal, all of a sudden, we’re not having to fulfill as many manual open record requests because we’re using open data," Feldman told Government Technology. "It’s already out there – go get it."

"We want to make the process easier for citizens," she said. "We want to make it more efficient and we do want to reduce commission and staff time because those resources are scarce and there are lots of priorities."

The company would provide infraction information to the city, in exchange for a percentage of the revenue generated by their efforts.

Logan even surveyed other fire departments around the state to see how they track their response times. One department in the state reported that they tracked response times by writing them down on their hands or gloves while responding to emergencies.

The new Institute will focus on five key sectors: smart cities, new media, health analytics, financial analytics, and cybersecurity, and speaks directly to the City’s groundbreaking Applied Sciences Initiative to increase New York’s capacity for applied sciences and potential for economic growth.
