Developing a more Entrepreneurial Montana

The good news is that no one in the startup world listens to politicians.

Entrepreneurship is not about the type of firm, it is about the type of problem.

While this is not a formal pitch session, if you are chosen to participate, you’ll get to experience the joy of selling the "elevator pitch" to the money guys, and you will get valuable feedback on your pitch, your ideas and your business plan that will help to prepare you for the more formal pitch opportunities in your future.

Nancy Gaynor of Whitefish and Geraldine Hewankorn of Big Arm, both descendants of Chief Eneas Paul Big Knife of the Kootenai Nation, participated in a panel on "Rural Women, Technology and Access to Education, Training and Employment."

The free seven-month course begins in April in Helena, and includes approximately 40 hours of classroom time per participant and provides the opportunity for small business owners to work with experienced mentors, attend workshops and develop connections with their peers, city leaders and financial communities.

The study concludes that Michigan already has in place many programs and initiatives that have been designed for entrepreneurs.

Most startups don’t finish. Thirty percent of new companies fail in the first year, and 50% fail within 5 years.

The training will focus on what is needed to start a business and tips for current business owners.
