Dr. Harry W. Fritz, professor and chair of the history department at the University of Montana, will be the featured speaker at the next City Club Missoula http://www.cityclubmissoula.org forum.

“The
purpose of history is, after all, is to explain who we
are, how we got that way, and where we are going. No
one can accurately predict the future, but predictions
are always based on history.” In his presentation to
City Club, Fritz will update his “historian’s view of
where we have been and where we may be going.”

Local businesses face some daunting disadvantages when it comes to entering the highly competitive global economy, not the least of which is the state’s relative inexperience with foreign trade, Montana World Trade Center executive director Arnie Sherman told a group of City Club Missoula members Friday.

The fourth largest state in the union has the ninth fastest-growing economy in the country, Gov. Brian Schweitzer told City Club Missoula members Monday night.

More specifically, Schweitzer will talk about his administration’s plans and priorities for economic development in the state.

Schweitzer will present “Montana State Round-Up” followed by table discussions and questions.

Sue Malek, chair of the commission, will make a brief
presentation and distribute materials about four
ballot measures the Commission is recommending to
voters in the November election. Included are
proposals to change boundaries of wards and the number
of council persons representing each ward.
