"We always thought it was undoable, because of a cultural cliché: ‘Well you ain’t bringing back the buffalo,’" Posewitz said. "That doesn’t apply anymore."

From kids looking with wonder at their expansive surroundings to scientists documenting a new discovery, the Reserve is quickly becoming a cherished destination for people of all ages.

The event will conclude with a finale picnic, where you’ll join new friends to watch hundreds of elk bugling during their annual mating ritual, known as the rut.

This year, American Prairie Foundation celebrates its 10th year in operation.

American Prairie Foundation has opened its first public campground on American Prairie Reserve, located 50 miles south of Malta, Montana and four miles north of the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge.

We are pleased that the film has received this recognition in Montana and are grateful for the opportunity to have collaborated with National Geographic on this effort.

With our new campground opening in May, I hope you’ll join us to see the stunning renewal of life that takes place each spring.

American Prairie Foundation will hold a BioBlitz event June 23 – 25, 2011 on American Prairie Reserve (50 miles south of Malta) and is currently accepting applications to participate from scientific experts and citizen scientists.

The trip, called "Montana and Yellowstone," will take high school students on an unforgettable trek through the Reserve and Yellowstone National Park.

2011 is already on the way to becoming an even more remarkable year, as we gear up to host the National Geographic Student Expeditions program on American Prairie Reserve this summer and move ahead with projects including the construction of our first hiking trail and the addition of interpretive signs to the Reserve. I hope to see you on the prairie this spring.
