What makes for great and nimble teachers? The Hollywood view is that they’re born that way.

Sean McComb vividly remembers the moment a teacher changed his life forever.

From early ages through college, data and information will guide students and parents through this new world. They will look for the best education options like travelers today look for a Trip Advisor rating.

So far, the group has found that 95 percent of participants consider studying computer science after taking the course.

The study, based on data from the larger national Family Health Habits Survey, found that kids with obese parents were about twice as likely to be obese themselves, but having an obese sibling raised a child’s risk of obesity five-fold or more in some cases.

Next month, if you walk into any Target store across the country, browsing one of the main hubs of mass American consumerism, you’ll find a board game that teaches the fundamentals of computer programming to preschoolers.

The mini-grants seek to develop or grow programs that offer exposure to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), with a focus on building collaboration between existing programs and organizations that will encourage girls to pursue STEM-related education and careers.

If faculty, advisers, students (and parents) have access to learning data, they can make more informed decisions.
