Imaginative ideas, practical advice and marketing strategies are on tap for artists who attend Livingston’s “Marketing for Artists” workshop on Saturday, May 22, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Best Western Yellowstone Inn, 1515 W. Park Street.

Wildlife artist John Banovich will kick off the event by discussing “The Evolution of the Artist as a Business Person.” Other topics to be explored include “Principles of Marketing for the Artist,” by Norman Milliken, professor emeritus at Montana State University – Bozeman, and “Presenting the Artist’s Team," by Stacy Peretz, of Banovich Studios.

A “Successful Artists’ Panel” will bring artists together to tell how they made it. Artists invited include painter and printmaker Parks Reece, painter Larry Zabel, sculptor Amber Jean, photographers Tom Murphy and Barb Walker, glass artist Richard Parrish, ceramist DeDe Christman, and gunsmith Steven Hughes.

A similar panel made up of gallery owners and other arts professionals, “Succeeding in Different Venues,” will discuss how artists can stay afloat and even prosper in competitive arts environments.

Professional and amateur painters, watercolorists, sculptors, ceramists, photographers, graphic and digital and new-media artists from all across the state are welcome.

The workshop is jointly sponsored by the Montana State University Extension Service, the Montana Arts Council and the nonprofit Alliance Development Corporation of Park County.

The charge for the day-long event, including luncheon, is $45. (A few scholarships are available.) Deadline for registration is Friday, May 7.
