2021 Annual Meeting on June 30-July 1

Registration is available for the 2021 Annual Meeting, which will be presented as a virtual event on June 30-July 1. The event hosted by WGA Chair, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, will highlight the Governors discussing their ongoing work to manage the impact of COVID-19 and insightful conversations about the most significant issues facing the region. The two-day meeting will feature the Governors in roundtables with special guests on topics such as emergency response, public lands challenges, shared stewardship, infrastructure and workforce. Governors advocate in Senate for more input on energy development, healthcare policy
Western Governors this week advocated in the U.S. Senate for a greater role in energy development policy for federal lands in the West, sought to collaborate more closely with the Department of Agriculture to improve broadband connectivity speeds for rural areas, and shared health care policy. “We are eager to work with the Administration on policies that involve energy development and use in the West,” noted the outreach for a hearing of the Senate’s Energy and Natural Resources committee. (Read letter) WGA Chair Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Vice Chair Idaho Gov. Brad Little requested that USDA officials upgrade the current definition of broadband to better serve the needs of business, education and health care. (Read letter) Finally, the Governors shared policy addressing health care – including access to mental health, behavioral health, and substance use services – for a Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions hearing.
