Venture Capital: Move to Seattle? More are saying ‘yes’

Former Priceline.com executive Hugh Crean moved from Boston to Seattle last fall, leaving behind four siblings, three nephews and his mom. The 34-year-old technology executive misses his family, but he said the chance to run a promising Seattle online travel startup was just too good to pass up.

"When making the decision to pick yourself up and move your life to a new place, certainly the opportunity has a lot to do with that," said Crean, who joined Seattle-based Farecast in November as chief executive.

Crean is not the only executive packing his bags and moving to the Pacific Northwest.

With the region’s technology community roaring back to life and venture capital flowing to new startups, executives from around the country are landing jobs at up-and-coming Seattle-area companies. That’s a far cry from just three or four years ago, when few companies were hiring and it was nearly impossible to relocate top talent to the Seattle area.

But in the past months, a number of privately held companies have attracted seasoned executives from outside the region.
