The South Dakota Economy: ‘It’s turning around’

South Dakota Senate Majority Leader Russell Olson said in his keynote address that communities need to brag about the qualities that set them apart from everywhere else. He told audience members to "check your vision," by looking at community appearance and finding ways to see the dollar signs that come from economic development.

"As leaders in your community it’s your job to find ways to make your community more presentable to prospects," Olson, who is the manager of community and economic development at Heartland Consumers Power District in Madison, said.

Olson said it’s important to regularly update economic development websites with critical information such as gas and electric rates. He also suggested thinking about the best people to put on the hosting team that greets prospective businesses.
