Orchestra players are not very happy people. Among professions, their job satisfaction is one of the lowest. The grueling hours, job insecurity, and poor pay are certainly part of the cause, but constant submission to inconsiderate, domineering and less-than-competent conductors is probably the main reason for the high proportion of cynics in the music profession.
