In her decades as a journalist, Gwen Florio told people’s stories from places as diverse as Afghanistan and Somalia to Lost Springs, Wyoming, population three. She mines some of the same ground in her award-winning crime fiction that explores issues in the contemporary American West. In her standalone novel, Silent Hearts, Florio turned her focus to Afghanistan and the stories of women in a country that has known nothing but war for generations.
