Tech economy in Utah thrives, national, state studies indicate. Idaho High-tech exports third highest % in nation.
Steady job growth and a faster flow of venture capital investments have Utah’s technology economy booming, local and national studies show.
Cyberstates 2006: A Complete State-by-State Overview of the High-Technology Industry http://www.aeanet.org/publications/idjj_cyberstates2006_overview.asp states that Utah’s tech companies raked in nearly $250 million in venture capital investments last year, up 23 percent from 2004.
The report, released Wednesday, also notes that for 2004 (the most current year for which state employment figures were available) Utah’s tech job count had topped 49,300. The software publishers sector alone produced 4,700 jobs 9 good enough to rank the state 13th nationally.
The report, sponsored by the American Electronics Associa- tion, or AeA, cq concluded that, "both the recent job growth and the surge in venture capital investments are strong signs that the tech industry is strengthening in Utah," said Jessica Wright, executive director of AeA’s Mountain States Council.
"Utah’s strong work ethic and high level of education make it an attractive location for technology companies to develop new products and techniques," she added.

Survey finds economic impact includes high wages paid to tech workers

Tech industry workers in Idaho are paid twice as much as the average private sector worker, giving the state the second highest wage differential in the nation, according to a new tech industry report issued Wednesday.
The ninth annual Cyberstates report said Idaho tech workers earned an average wage of $60,500, or 106 percent more than Idaho’s average private sector wage. Only California had a larger wage differential.
High-tech exports represented 69 percent of Idaho’s total exports — the third highest percentage in the nation.
