Take advantage of the fire dollars – for your local economy

The MDT Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program encourages and supports the participation of companies owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals in transportation contracts.

I attended the National Fire Plan Update meeting held in Missoula this past
Tuesday and feel that MEDA members need to be informed of some of the
opportunities
that were presented for accessing fire dollars in Montana.

Both the US Forest Service and BLM have grant programs to reduce fuel
haazzards
and they need sponsorship from a non profit as most community and economic
developments
organizations are.

Pat Mullaney is the BLM contact in Billings at http://www.mt.blm.gov/
BLM grants are 100%, no match due 7/1/02, all federal lands qualify, not
just
BLM if its in your County or not!

Also http://www.fireplan.gov/ will get contracting opportunities up. Creating
Firewise
communities is in the best interest of economic developers in Montana.
