Startup: Portland’s Brightworks targets a new vein of sustainability

A passion for the environment pairs best with public policy, or at least that’s what Scott Lewis thought until a series of technology startups that he launched convinced him otherwise.

He merged entrepreneurship and the environment a decade ago, creating a one-man Portland consulting firm centered on sustainable building. Over the years, Brightworks http://brightworks.net/ added more than 20 employees, opened five more offices across the U.S. and built its place in the market. It’s attracted international clients and big-name companies, including Cisco, Chevron, Clorox and Facebook, which enlisted the company’s help for its Prineville data center.
