Oregon Uses Technology to Match Workers and Employers

Governor Ted Kulongoski of Oregon recently announced the launch of the iMatchSkills system, an electronic program that matches employers with qualified workers. The iMatchSkills program is unique because it allows employees to find jobs based on their skills, not previous job titles.

Instead of a resume-approach to finding qualified employees, the iMatchSkills system provides the match to employers’ indications of skills required for specific jobs. Employees will also be able to easily identify gaps in their skill sets in order to access needed training and educational services.

The system is a part of Governor Kulongoski’s overall workforce initiative which is striving to:

* Make workforce services easier to access;

* Increase resources that businesses can use to train employees; and

* Enhance the connection between the demands of the economy and workforce services.

The iMatchSkills system will be launched on the Internet in the fall of 2004 and is currently available in Oregon Employment Department field offices.
