The partnership with Leviton, one of the largest electrical supply firms, is the last step before DDI can start shipping its devices next spring.
DDI makes a device that networks all electronic and wireless components in a home, from a personal computer or laptop to a DVD player to a cell phone. The networking allows for automation of those devices through a central location.
For instance, one could program into a home system that at a certain time every morning, the thermostat temperature would rise, the coffee pot would turn on, the drapes would be drawn and the TV news would be turned on.
While “Smart Home” networks have been around for decades, they have been expensive and complex. DDI officials say they have the product that will bring this high-tech networking into the average home, with a product that the average homeowner and installer can understand.
“This licensing agreement with Leviton validates what we´re doing,” said DDI President and CEO Jeffrey Moeser.
Ian Hendler, director of business development for Leviton, said the partnership can help solve a problem in the industry.
“With DDI´s technology background and Leviton´s understanding of the residential marketplace and its drivers, we can deliver this powerful technology and make it as ergonomic and universal to operate as a light switch,” said Hendler.
DDI, started earlier this year, has received $500,000 in funding from area investors and now has seven employees. Moeser said the firm plans to hire three more employees in software and product management over the next few months.

The firm also announced it has hired Glenn Michael as the company´s chief financial officer and chief operating officer. Michael was previously executive vice president and chief financial officer at SCP Global Technologies.
“Glenn brings experience and a wealth of knowledge that are rarely available to a startup company,” said Moeser.
Mark Solon, managing partner at Highway 12 Ventures, which led the local investment into DDI, said Michael is a strong addition.
“His rich background in operations and finance will help DDI to reach its full potential,” said Solon, who is also a DDI board member.
