MSU Leadership Institute Hosts Israeli-Palestinian Educators And Authors, 10/8, Bozeman, Montana

On Monday, October 8 at 7:30 pm in MSU Strand Union Ballrooms, Shaul Gabbay, Ph.D., an Israeli Jew and Amin Kazak, Ph.D., a Palestinian Muslim will deliver narratives about both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Dedicated to bringing to light the true causes of unrest in the Middle East, together they published the book One Land Two Stories, which offers stunning insights into the rich history and events that have shaped the scarred socio-political landscape of the Middle East. Presented historically and side-by-side, Gabbay and Kazak will reveal different perspectives about the simmering conflict in a region desperately needing peaceful resolution. Following the presentation, there will be an Q&A discussion with the authors.

Noted world-class lecturers, Gabbay and Kazak have established a close friendship without denying their opposing viewpoints and convictions. Where governments repeatedly fail, their mutual respect succeeds. Attendees will be fascinated by the unique delivery of their complex subject matter through the authors’ perspectives coupled with their personal stories. Whether a novice or a seasoned student of history, this event promises deeper understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and why a peace agreement remains elusive.

Gabbay was born and raised in Tel Aviv. The son of Jewish refugees from Arab lands, his coming of age in Israel filled him with a sense of belonging and pride. Educated in Israel, Gabbay earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University and completed post-doctoral studies at the University of Chicago. Born in Haifa, Kazak became a Palestinian refugee in 1948 and spent his formative years impoverished in a Palestinian refugee camp. Kazak completed advanced degrees from the American University in Beirut, Lebanon and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Denver.

Free and open to the public, doors open at 7:00 pm, with free parking on campus after 6:00 pm. The lecture is sponsored by ASMSU, the MSU Leadership Institute, MSU Office of the Provost, MSU’s Office of International Programs, and Sigma Phi Epsilon.
