Micron grant funds new Boise State high-tech marketing program
Professionals working in high-tech markets, as well as those considering entering that
arena, will benefit from a new program offered by Boise State University´s College of Business
and Economics, university officials say.
The high-tech marketing program — funded by a $100,000 grant from the Micron Technology
Foundation — will offer workshops, certificate programs and undergraduate and MBA-level
courses for credit. Regular courses are slated to begin in fall 2002. Both open enrollment and
customized workshops will be available.
A one-day sample workshop will be held at BSU on May 30 to provide an overview of the
certificate program and its benefits. The workshop, priced at $295 for a full day of courses as
well as lunch, is aimed at managers with revenue-generating responsibilities in high-tech
markets.
Organizers said the sample workshop will help marketing professionals identify key
characteristics of high-tech markets, understand the competition, set technological standards
and learn how environmental factors influence the development of strategic and operational
plans.
In describing the program, Micron Foundation Executive Director Karen Vauk said, “We´re
very excited about this new high-tech marketing program because it aligns well with the Micron
Foundation´s interest in funding innovative education projects that will have high impact in
advancing higher education.”
Kirk Smith, chairman of the department of marketing and finance at BSU, said the program
meets the needs of many of the Treasure Valley´s employers.
“Not only do these companies want to hire people who´ve had this kind of training, but they
also want to get their own people trained. They like the idea of having local talent they can
bring in for a morning or afternoon,” he said.
