Leadership Institute Host Award-winning Producer And Film About Benazir Bhutto, 10/10, Bozeman, Montana

On Wednesday, October 10 at 6:30 PM, the MSU Leadership Institute will screen the film Bhutto in the Procrastinator Theater, located in the Strand Union Building at MSU.

Co-producer Mark Siegel will be at the screening to lead a post-film discussion. Siegel, who worked with Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on her book and autobiography, looks to answer audience questions raised from the riveting nature of the film. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Northwestern University and has since become one of the world’s foremost experts on political parties and political behavior.

Winner of a prestigious Peabody Award and nominated for a News & Documentary Emmy Award, Bhutto chronicles the story of the first woman to lead a Muslim nation in spite of controversy and political struggles. Bhutto was born into a dominant Pakistan family, gaining a Western education at Harvard and Oxford. As Pakistan’s first democratically elected president, her father chose her to carry on the political dynasty. In one of the most conflict driven countries on earth, Benazir Bhutto experienced a captivating tale of success and tragedy.

During her two terms as Prime Minister, Bhutto courageously fought for democracy and women’s rights. Faced with accusations of scandal and corruption, she battled through periods of exile and imprisonment. Her unsolved assassination in 2007 marked tragedy for her Pakistan People’s Party. Despite all the controversy surrounding her family and political missions, Bhutto left a legacy and has served as an inspiration to millions. From beginning to end, the film serves to bring a real-world dimension to the struggles of this modern day political figure.
