The state Public Service Commission will host an informational meeting Tuesday, November 9, with Brent Struthers of Neustar, a telecommunications clearinghouse provider, to discuss regulatory and operational issues related to Voice Over Internet Protocol. VoIP subscribers use their internet broadband connections for their local and long distance telephone calling.

The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the PSC’s Bollinger Room, 1701 Prospect Avenue, in Helena.

Struthers is Neustar’s director of state regulatory affairs. Issues he will address at the meeting include:

– How VoIP works and its relationship to the public switched telephone network;

– How VoIP ties into NeuStar’s activities related to telephone number administration and pooling and local number portability;

– Mapping of telephone numbers to internet addresses; and,

– What NeuStar is doing to assist in the interfacing of VoIP and circuit switched telephony.
