Bozeman, Montana based MyVillage Honored for ‘World-Changing Idea’ by Fast Company

Child care startup is the only MT company recognized in prestigious awards

Bozeman (April 29, 2020) — MyVillage, a startup founded by two moms and serial entrepreneurs, has been honored by Fast Company Magazine in a global competition to honor companies that are changing the world. MyVillage is the only Montana based company included on the prestigious list. 

“We’re honored to be recognized for our work to reimagine child care in America,” said co-founder and CEO Erica Mackey. “Child care was deeply broken for educators, parents, and children before the pandemic. Now is the opportunity to elevate new early education business models like home-based care that work well with social distancing.”

The National Association for the Education of Young Children reported last week that child care programs around the country lost nearly 70% of their daily attendance in a single week due to COVID-19. Of the child care programs that remain open, 28% are home-based programs, a trend Mackey believes will increase as parents refuse to expose their children to large groups and many child care centers shutter permanently. 

MyVillage’s community includes more than 120 home-based educators—all of them women and most of them mothers—including more than 60 programs operating in Montana and Colorado. With both states under statewide shelter-in-place orders, MyVillage launched a Coronavirus Relief Fund in March to guarantee educators’ income and cover tuition payments for parents in the event of forced closures or illness.
