Ag Council awards grants to 8 projects

HELENA – The Montana Agriculture Development Council has awarded more than $250,000 to eight
projects for agricultural development in Montana, according to council Chair Robert Hanson.
Projects approved at a recent council meeting in Bozeman included both marketing and business
development proposals. Funding came from the Montana Growth Through Agriculture Program, which is
managed by the Agriculture Development Council.

"The Growth Through Agriculture Program provides investments to help Montana entrepreneurs develop
new products and agri-business ideas to enhance our state’s agricultural industry," says Ralph Peck, director
of the Montana Department of Agriculture and a member of the Agriculture Development Council.

Investment funds were awarded to:

Arbuckle Ranch, Inc. – developing a harvester for native grass seeds, Alzada

Dietz Pumps – developing a high-pressure wind-driven water pump, Ekalaka

Innovative Marketing Solutions – a Montana distribution system for Montana value-added products,
Hathaway

Lake County Community Development – processing improvements for local food product development,
Ronan

North Central Montana Regional Water Authority – rural water delivery system for northcentral Montana,
Havre

Beartooth Natural Meats Cooperative – investigating options for the development of a beef, pork, lamb,
bison, and elk natural meats cooperative, Columbus

Montana Western Flavors – logo and label development for a line of retail beef products, Forsyth

Richland Economic Development – development of regional malting barley infrastructure and handling
capacity, Sidney.
