$15 Million Offered for Community Tech Centers (Can your community take advantage of this program?)

The Department of Education Office of Vocational and Adult Education anticipated making up to 83 awards in the new $15 million solicitation for Community Technology
Centers. The purpose of the Community Technology Centers program is to assist eligible applicants to create or expand community technology centers that will provide
disadvantaged residents of economically distressed urban and rural communities with access to information technology and related training.

Eligible applicants include community-based organizations, including faith-based organizations, state and local educational agencies, institutions of higher education,
entities such as foundations, libraries, museums and other public and private nonprofit organizations or for-profit businesses. To be eligible, an applicant must also have
the capacity to significantly expand access to computers and related services for disadvantaged residents of economically distressed urban and rural communities (who
would otherwise be denied such access).

A 50 percent cost share is required. Individual one-year award sizes will range between $75,000-$300,000. Proposals are due July 19, 2002. Potential applicants are
strongly encouraged to send by June 28, 2002 a brief notification of intent to submit an application to the following address: [email protected].
