Job Description
The Phyllis J. Washington College of Education is currently conducting a dean search as the current dean, Dan Lee, is stepping down from his position.
Lee has been the dean for the College of Education for three years. A new dean taking over means a new direction for the College of Education and has major impacts for education, as the Phyllis J. Washington College of Education is primarily involved in teacher education, curriculum of some classes and funding for education programs that will have new leadership.
The new dean will oversee several programs, including the Early Childhood Education program, the National Native Children’s Trauma Center and the Montana Safe Schools Center. They will also take on the counseling program and the digital programs that allow for online classes around the state.
There are challenges that Lee is hoping the new dean will be able to help solve. “We are experiencing a time of lower teacher enrollment,” Lee said. “How do we increase enrollment?”
Many people have ideas for the qualities of the new dean. “Someone who has a lot of experience, passion and drive for students,” Lyle said.
“A strong advocate for the College,” Allen said.
