Job Description

The Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) invites applications for the position of a Marketing Director/Event Planner.

 

Marketing and promoting all BBER publications, programs, and services; creating and implementing marketing plans and tools to develop and maintain awareness of BBER with non-UM constituencies; and representing the BBER at external events statewide. Creating, writing, and delivering publicity and educational materials to promote BBER; establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with representatives of the media including radio, television, newspaper, and magazines; translating complex research data into non-technical terms for the media, the general public, and policymakers; and responding to requests for information from the media, community, consumers, government agencies, and public interest groups.

Creating content, maintaining, and updating the Bureau website; developing, implementing, and managing online and social media communications with the purpose of marketing Bureau programs, publications, events, and services.

 

Maintaining, tracking, and processing all BBER contacts in the departments database; monitoring and promoting BBER publication subscriptions, payments, and attendance records to the annual Montana Economic Outlook Seminars and other BBER events. Initiating, creating, planning, and implementing statewide and national conferences, seminars, and other BBER events; negotiating and signing agreements with vendors and facilities; participating in strategic planning for events, including program themes and recruitment of speakers and sponsors; and supervising data entry and administrative employees assisting with event planning.

 

Researching and maintaining a supply of BBER materials including forms, brochures, flyers, reports, publications, resources, and handouts. Maintaining a complete historical file of all advertising and promotional activity. Required Skills Demonstrated creativity, as well as database design and maintenance skills Demonstrated public relations, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups of individuals. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write and edit materials. Demonstrate the ability to develop, write, and deliver press releases, electronic newsletters, and other public relations materials. Demonstrated event planning and budget management skills.

 

Demonstrated time management, organization, record-keeping, tracking, and filing skills. Sound knowledge of writing, AP style editing, graphic design, and printing production principles and practices. Knowledge of marketing, business and economic principles and techniques. Knowledge of online and social media marketing techniques.

 

Knowledge of presentation equipment including digital projectors, personal computers, sound systems and related Word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and database software, website content management systems (including Access, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Office, SQL, HTML, Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe PageMaker). Knowledge of web service practices and security.

 

Knowledge and experience in program management and events planning. Ability to Design and implement short- and long-range planning. Ability to communicate marketing plan and strategies with other BBER staff members to ensure a consistent message. Ability to act as a primary point of contact regarding all BBER marketing materials, and work directly with BBER Director to prioritize marketing efforts. Excellent public relations and communication skills, and ability to network with private and public sector members. Ability to detect spelling, grammatical, layout, and other errors, and ability to check for accuracy and maintain current records Ability to respond efficiently and effectively to sensitive issues regarding BBER research and findings. Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals. Ability to create original content on a regular and ongoing basis, and act as a point of contact for Website content issues. Ability to maintain payment records and necessary corresponding documentation. Ability to create and implement short- and long-term goals to maintain and improve the database. Ability to multi-task, establish project timelines, set deadlines for BBER staff, and handle multiple concurrent projects. Ability to successfully coordinate with other staff, vendors, and collaborators, and effectively delegate multiple tasks to associate employees Ability to problem-solve, evaluate and create short-and long-term goals for all BBER events, exercise sound judgment and maintain professional, personable demeanor. Ability to negotiate and conclude service agreements with vendors and facilities. Ability to participate in strategic planning of conference content, as well as recruitment of speakers and sponsors. This position requires incumbent to develop a working knowledge of Montana media organizations and contacts; develop a working knowledge of University printing and publishing practices and procedure guidelines, as well as UM policies and procedures regarding payments and financial record-keeping; and develop a sound knowledge of BBER research and capabilities to inform the external audience.

 

Minimum Required Experience High school diploma (or equivalency) in addition to two (2) years of professional work experience in marketing, editing/writing, or public relations; or any combination of experience and education that provides the competencies necessary to successfully discharge the duties and responsibilities assigned to the position. Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, or related field
