DESCRIPTION:The University of Montana is now accepting applications for our next Regional I-Corps Cohort\, running September 1 through September 30\, 2026. \nIf you are a researcher\, faculty member\, student\, entrepreneur\, startup founder\, or innovator trying to understand whether your idea has real market potential\, this program is designed to help you figure that out. \nOver five weeks\, participants use a proven customer discovery process to test assumptions\, better understand customer needs\, refine their value proposition\, and explore possible commercialization pathways. The experience can also strengthen future SBIR/STTR and other grant proposals by providing real-world market validation and evidence of stakeholder engagement. \nIf you are working on a technology\, research discovery\, or startup idea\, we would love to connect with you. And if someone in your network should see this\, please share it with them. \n\nThe Regional I-Corps training at University of Montana spans five weeks\, offering a blended approach to assess the market potential of your technology. This program welcomes both researchers and entrepreneurs\, the curriculum explores the commercial potential of deep technology solutions across any industry sector. It prepares researchers to extend their focus beyond the lab and consider the economic and societal impact of their work. \nParticipants in an I-Corps team should allocate roughly 8-10 hours weekly throughout the duration of the five-week program. Kohl Distinguished Educational Leadership Lecture will be held in Inspiration Hall inside Norm Asbjornson Hall\, with an online streaming option available. The program includes refreshments and mingling from 5:30 to 5:50 p.m. and presentations from 5:50 to 7 p.m. Parking is available in the parking garage adjacent to Norm Asbjornson Hall.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLecture speakers are rural education experts Melissa Sadorf\, executive director of the National Rural Education Association\, and Jerry Johnson\, Phoebe Moore Dail Distinguished Professor in Rural Education and director of the Rural Education Institute at East Carolina University.\nThe event is sponsored by MSU’s College of Education\, Health and Human Development. Attendance includes lunch and an evening reception on Thursday\, and a light breakfast and coffee on Friday. The event is free and open to the public\, but registration is required. \n“The rise of artificial intelligence has fundamentally transformed how knowledge is created\, shared and understood while raising profound intellectual questions that cut across every discipline and field of inquiry\,” said Doralyn Rossmann\, co-founder of the Institute on Artificial Intelligence and dean of the MSU Library. “As AI becomes increasingly embedded in research\, education and public life\, we must carefully examine its implications for the production of knowledge and truth.” \nThe event will feature MSU experts and guest speakers from across the nation to address topics including the modes of research and creative work that are possible with AI\, how AI will affect the transmission and preservation of human knowledge\, whether AI will be a reliable source of knowledge and whether AI poses a threat to having an informed citizenry.
