Broadway Street\, Missoula \nThe federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs can provide significant non-dilutive funding to develop technology and move it toward commercialization. Notable people who have delivered TED Talks include Bill Gates\, Al Gore and Temple Grandin\, among many others. \nAt MSU\, this year’s event theme is “Cultivating Connections.” Below is a list of the five planned speakers\, who include a current student\, an alumnus and hockey coach\, and a mentor in residence\, each affiliated with the university. \n\nLinda Elkins: Elkins is an engineer\, former professional athlete\, corporate leader\, entrepreneur and mentor whose career has often placed her at the intersection of people\, ideas and opportunity. She is a mom of three\, active athlete\, board member and startup adviser working across universities\, healthcare and private companies. Elkins’ TEDx talk will share how relationships built out of curiosity can create unexpected opportunities long before we know where they may lead. \nPete Kamman: Kamman is a recent MSU alum\, associate head coach of the Bobcats hockey club and the founder of Elevated Hockey\, which develops players\, coaches and hockey programs. Hear from four panelists working across advocacy\, forensics\, mental health\, and the justice system. Carissa Heavy Runner will share how her advocacy for her daughter\, Mika Westwolf\, helped launch the #MikaMatters Movement. Dr. Haley Omeasoo will discuss the importance of Indigenous-led forensic services. Ashton Smith will explore the intergenerational impacts of colonization and how its tactics have perpetuated ongoing violence against Native people and contributed to the MMIP/MMIR movement. The event will bring athletes from around the world to north-central Montana and put Great Falls on an international stage. \nCompetitors will take on the classic 140.6-mile challenge\, beginning with a 2.4-mile swim in the Missouri River\, followed by a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile marathon through Great Falls.
