Webinar: When, Not If: Are Your Region’s Businesses Prepared for a Disaster? – 6/11

June 11 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Every part of the planet is vulnerable to disasters, whether they are natural-occurring events such as floods, fires, earthquakes, and hurricanes or manmade disasters such as terrorism, chemical spills, or nuclear accidents. Not only have disasters become more frequent in recent years, but their impacts have also become more costly. Unfortunately, disasters often strike with little or no warning. The damage they inflict on communities can be in the billions of dollars. Businesses can face dramatic consequences in the wake of a disaster, as well as sudden economic losses and dislocation. By spending time preparing, mitigating, and preventing disasters, you can help your area businesses be better able to respond, recover, and remain more resilient in the face of disruptive change.

This free webinar will be presented by guest speaker, Leann Hackman-Carty, Entrepreneur, Author, Master of Disaster, Resilience Champ, and CEO for Economic Developers Alberta (EDA) since 2009. The more tools, information, and resources that your region’s businesses have access to, the more empowered they will be to take charge of their own response and recovery efforts. It could mean the difference between saving lives, keeping our livelihood, and maintaining our quality of life. Governments, emergency response organizations, and humanitarian relief agencies cannot do it alone. These measures can make all the difference when it comes to stabilizing the area economy after a disastrous event.

What will you be learning?

* Case study: Fort McMurray (AB) business response and recovery
* About disasters – types and challenges
* A step-by-step guide to helping your region’s businesses Stand APART©
* The session will include a Q&A.
