The Montana Learning Center invites you to view the stars through the largest public-use telescope in Montana – 7/6 – Helena
July 9 @ 9:00 pm - 11:30 pm
Nebulae, galaxies, and all that grace Montana’s night sky will be on display at the Mike and Lynn Rice Astronomical Park at the Montana Learning Center, 7653 Canyon Ferry Road.
The Montana Learning Center has been offering summer science camps for kids and teacher trainings since the 1980s!
You are invited to join the public grand opening for the Mike and Lynn Rice Astronomical Park. Tours of the observatory complex will begin at 9 p.m.
The highlight of the evening’s events will be viewing the night sky through the Montana Learning Center’s 25-inch telescope, the largest public-use telescope in Montana. The light of distant stars, planets, and galaxies will be brought to you in brilliant color and demonstrate why the number of campers who come to the Montana Learning Center each summer is increasing year after year. In fact, this year’s registration of 310 students already exceeds the 265 participants who attended the Montana Learning Center summer learning camps for kids in 2018.
In addition to touring the facility, you can learn more about all that the Montana Learning Center has to offer!
Star parties are available for children and adults, and reservations can be made starting in July with the MLC for these three-hour programs. Parties are available from June through October, weather permitting. Your opportunity to view the night sky through this public-use telescope will show you how much fun viewing of the cosmos can be!
We also have a 14-inch robotic telescope equipped with a monochrome camera for photographing solar, lunar and planetary objects. The telescope is also available to be reserved by individuals or for groups of up to six people.
We hope you can join us for a tour of the Milky Way and an out-of-this-world celebration and look forward to seeing you on July 6th!
